Plug a USB keyboard into the TV, press the arrow keys until Allow is highlighted, then press Enter. Most smart TVs accept a USB keyboard, and you only need to do this once.
Select Allow with a USB keyboard
- Plug a USB keyboard into a USB port on the TV. A wireless keyboard with a USB receiver works too.
- Connect from the app, so the message appears on the TV.
- Press the arrow keys until Allow is highlighted.
- Press Enter. The app connects, and the TV remembers your phone for next time.
On an LG TV
LG TVs ask you to Accept the phone. The same keyboard trick works: highlight Accept with the arrow keys and press Enter. Declined by mistake? Just connect again from the app: the TV asks again. LG guide
Selected Deny by mistake?
On a Samsung TV, Deny blocks your phone. Open Settings › General › External Device Manager › Device Connection Manager › Device List, allow or delete your phone, then connect again (on newer models it's under Settings › All Settings › Connection). Samsung guide
What doesn't work
- The buttons on the TV. They usually can't select Allow.
- A USB mouse on a Samsung TV. Samsung TVs use a mouse only in their web browser, not on the Allow message.
TVs that don't ask you to allow
- A code instead: Sony, Vizio and Hisense VIDAA TVs show a 4-digit PIN, and Android TV and Google TV show a 6-character code. Type it in the app: no remote needed.
- Roku: nothing to approve. If phone apps can't control it, check that Settings › System › Advanced system settings › Control by mobile apps › Network access is set to Default (or Permissive).
Why your TV asks
It's a security check: the TV asks the first time a new phone connects. Once you've allowed your phone, the app reconnects by itself.
